Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Massena, New York
Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Patient Diagnoses: COPD, Pneumonia, Non-specific abdominal pain, Cellulitis, Chest pain rule out
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:6
- Nights: 1:7
- Weekends: 1:8
- Unit does not accept first-time travelers
- Local candidates must live more than 50 miles away
- Electronic Health Record System: Epic required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic Electronic Health Record system
Skills and Competencies
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
- Blood product administration
- Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Management of:
- CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident)
- Seizure disorders
- Substance withdrawal
- BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Non-invasive airway management and oxygen administration
- Isolation precautions and PPE use
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- 7-year criminal background check including all aliases and multiple registry checks (national, state, county, social security, sex offender, education verification) within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification from registrar’s office (transcript/diploma not accepted)
- State license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- Harassment prevention training certificate (New York, annual)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required by profession
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam
- Photo for badge (passport-style, solid background)
- Review of patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience training, and compliance attestations prior to start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (PAPR education required if fit test failed)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years (TD not accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire if applicable
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific panel required)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (documentation deadline December 3)
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
- Employment application, 7-year work history verification, skills checklist (updated annually), and 2 professional references required
Additional Information
- Scrubs: Any nursing uniform color allowed
- Must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing contract (if booked within 30 days of start)
- Strict compliance with expiration dates on health documents; renewal required prior to expiration during contract to avoid removal from assignment
This position is ideal for experienced Medical-Surgical/Telemetry RNs with current New York licensure and required certifications, who have prior travel nursing experience and are comfortable managing complex patient care in a fast-paced environment.
