Job Summary
Title: RN Case Management
Location: Bakersfield, California
Schedule: Night shift, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Role Overview
This role is for a fully experienced utilization review nurse focused on utilization review and discharge planning in an acute care hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Review inpatient medical records to determine whether required documentation is present
- Evaluate admissions for appropriateness and continuing stay necessity
- Coordinate discharge planning and care coordination
- Communicate with attending physicians, providers, payor sources, and other hospital services
- Identify pay source issues and support appropriate referrals
- Review and approve surgery schedules for authorization needs
- Assist with documentation and reimbursement-related questions
- May assist in training Utilization Review Nurse I staff
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- 1 year of Case Management experience
- Case Management experience within the last year
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Experience in a Clinic setting
- Utilization Review experience
- Utilization Review (InterQual)
- Discharge Planning
- PAYOR SOURCE DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
- GOVERNMENTAL REGULATIONS AFFECTING REIMBURSEMENT
- Med Surg experience
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of payor source documentation requirements and reimbursement regulations
- Knowledge of acute care nursing principles, common procedures, patient disease processes, medical terminology, hospital routine, and commonly used equipment
- Knowledge of acute hospital organization and the relationships among clinical and diagnostic services
- Ability to evaluate medical records, assess clinical performance, communicate documentation needs, teach documentation requirements, analyze data, and prepare reports
- Strong discharge planning and care coordination skills
