Registered Nurse — Emergency Room

Location

• Hastings, Nebraska

Contract

• 13 weeks
• 36 hours per week
• 12-hour night shifts

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• TNCC
• PALS or ENPC
• At least 3 years of ED experience preferred

Experience Preferences

• Good communication skills
• Strong assessment skills
• Prior travel experience is preferred but not required

Schedule

• Every other weekend
• One winter holiday and one summer holiday

Unit Details

• Approximately 40 patients per day
• 2 triage beds, 2 trauma bays, and 7 additional beds
• Separate triage area
• No fast track
• No ED holding area
• One psych/seclusion room
• In-house security 24/7
• ED physician coverage 24/7
• RT in-house 24/7
• Charge nurse present daily
• Block scheduling is attempted

Clinical Notes

• Common patient types include abdominal pain, falls, chest pain, and pediatric patients
• Common drips include antibiotics, cardiac drips, heparin, TPA, and insulin
• RN staff read their own strips
• CT and MRI are next to the ED
• X-ray transports patients
• Labs are drawn by both nursing and phlebotomy

Orientation

• 3 shifts with another nurse

Dress Code

• Gray scrubs provided
