Job Overview

Unit Details

  • Unit: Cardiac stepdown unit
  • Bed count: 18
  • Patient ratio: 4:1
  • Shift staffing: Day shift typically has 5 RNs, 1 charge clinician, and 2 patient care technicians; night shift typically has 5 nurses and 1 patient care technician
  • Floating: Telemetry and med surg

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • Cardiac Stepdown (2 years of experience)
  • Cardiac Stepdown experience within the last year
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience
  • Telemetry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Stepdown experience
  • Cardiac knowledge

Schedule / Work Expectations

  • Every other weekend
  • Overtime available

Unit Environment

  • Uses central lines, PCA, Foley catheters, chest tubes, pacer wires, telemetry, and drains
  • Common procedures include CABG, valve replacement, TAVR, Mitral clip, thoracotomy, and care for Afib, CHF, and MI
  • Common cardiac drips include Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, and nitro
  • Dress code: all navy scrubs
