Description
Registered Nurse — Surgical Acute
Location
- Phoenix, Arizona
Contract
- 13 weeks
- Nights
- 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Required Qualifications
- Active BLS certification
- Active ACLS certification
- 2 years of core experience in the specialty
- Level I trauma experience
- Teaching hospital experience
- 2 years of telemetry experience
- Cerner experience
Unit Details
- 30-bed surgical, trauma, and orthopedic unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–5
- Charge nurse does not take patients
- 2 nurse aides on days, 1 on nights
- Telemetry monitoring uses Phillips
- Ventilation support includes BiPAP and CPAP
- IV support available through SWAT RN
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
Schedule and Work Expectations
- 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week period
- Holidays are worked into the staff rotation
- Floor orientation: 2 shifts
- May float first to MS/Tele and possibly to Westgate or AZ General Laveen Campus

- Spine
- Orthopedic joints

Additional Notes
- Weekly orientations are held on Mondays except during holiday weeks
- Must not work another assignment or contract at the same time
- Must have been away from CommonSpirit for 12 months as permanent staff to be considered
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
- Men must be clean shaven for fit testing
- Travelers may be expected to work with nursing students
- Own vehicle required for travel teams
- SIMs Lab pass/fail is required on day 1 of orientation
- Dysrhythmia exam is required before acceptance, with a maximum of 2 attempts
- Onboarding must be complete by 1 pm CST on the Wednesday before start
