Unit Description

• Level III Trauma Center ICU
• 20-bed Medical/Surgical ICU (MICU)
• Patient diagnoses include Substance Abuse/Overdose, severe Psychiatric conditions, DKA, Sepsis, GI bleed, Respiratory Failure, Cardiac Arrest, Renal Failure, Cardiogenic Shock
• Attendings and Residents present 24/7
• Facility includes 220 Med Surg beds plus ICU, Maternity, etc.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years general ICU experience
• At least 2 years continuous MICU experience in one location
• Must be able to read telemetry strips

Shift and Floating Requirements

• Rotating shifts: Days/Eves/Nights & Every Other Weekend (EOW), 36 hours/week
• Day shifts rotate between 7a-7p, 11a-11p, or 7p-7a as needed; night shift does not rotate
• Floating required, primarily to Medical/Surgical units (up to 4-5 patients)
• Telemetry competency required

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• ICU: 1:2 or 1:1 for high acuity patients
• When floated to Med/Surg: 1:4 or 1:5

Patient Population

• Adult patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions

Charting System

• EPIC EMR

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Active Massachusetts RN License (no conditional licenses accepted)
• BLS (AHA, Red Cross, CHSF, or Military)
• ACLS (AHA, Red Cross, CHSF, or Military)
• Telemetry competency
• Fit Test for N95 respirator (within 365 days)
• MGB Medication Exam (80% passing within 365 days)
• MGB Advanced Dysrhythmia Exam (80% passing)
• MMR vaccination or proof of immunity
• Influenza vaccine (required during flu season, Sept 15 - April 30)
• TB test documentation (skin test or blood test within 3 months)
• Health Statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA (within 365 days)
• Criminal background checks including Massachusetts CORI, SSN trace, National Sex Offender Check, Exclusion Checks
• Respirator Medical Clearance Attestation (if fit test required)
• References: 2 recent, including at least 1 supervisor or above
• Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet required for submission

Additional Preferred/Optional

• Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity proof preferred
• Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
• Positive PPD requires negative chest x-ray documentation

This position requires a highly skilled ICU nurse with strong telemetry skills, flexibility for rotating shifts and floating, and compliance with extensive credentialing and health requirements.
