Unit and Patient Population

• Unit: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Level III Trauma Center
• Bed Count: 20 beds
• Patient Population: Adult patients with conditions such as Substance Abuse/Overdose, severe Psychiatric conditions, DKA, Sepsis, GI bleed, Respiratory Failure, Cardiac Arrest, Renal Failure, Cardiogenic Shock
• ICU staffed 24/7 with Attendings and Residents

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years of general ICU experience
• At least 2 years of continuous MICU experience in one location
• Must be able to read telemetry strips

Floating and Shift Details

• Floating required to Medical/Surgical units (up to 4-5 patients)
• Telemetry competency required
• Rotating shifts for day positions (7a-7p, 11a-11p, or 7p-7a)
• Night shift is fixed (no rotation)
• Typical hours: 36 hours per week, nights & every other weekend (EOW)

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• ICU: 1:2 or 1:1 for high acuity patients
• Med/Surg float: 1:4 or 1:5

Electronic Medical Record (EMR)

• EPIC system used for charting

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Active Massachusetts RN License (no conditional licenses accepted)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Telemetry competency
• Fit Test for N95 respirator (within 1 year)
• MMR vaccination or immunity proof
• Influenza vaccine (required during flu season: Sept 15 - April 30)
• TB test or negative QuantiFERON/T-spot within 3 months
• Health statement from a licensed provider within 1 year
• Criminal background checks including Massachusetts CORI, national sex offender check, exclusion checks, and SSN trace
• Medication exam (80% passing within 1 year)
• Advanced dysrhythmia exam (80% passing)
• Respirator Medical Clearance attestation (if fit test required)

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

• Two recent references required (minimum one supervisor or above)
• Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet required for submission
• Background checks and credential verifications must be current and compliant with facility policies

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with strong telemetry skills, comfortable with floating to med/surg units, and able to work rotating day shifts or fixed night shifts in a high-acuity trauma center environment.
