Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Labor & Delivery
- Nurse-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Float required
Work Schedule & Requirements
- On-Call: 36 hours every 6 weeks
- Weekend requirements: Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month
- No time off allowed during major holidays (e.g., Valentine's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day)
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
- AWHONN (Intermediate or Advanced) or NCC for Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) - actual downloaded certification required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, CHEMO, OCN, TNCC, CPI) — confirm with program management if unclear
Required Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test or online, 100% score required)
- Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher; not required for L&D, Psych, LTC, Mother-Baby/Couplet Care/Post Partum, Transitional Care)
- Core Competency Exams Part I, II, and III (minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually)
Required Health Documents
- Physical Exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA (Chiropractor not accepted)
- Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; if past positive, clear chest x-ray within 10 years plus questionnaire
- TB Questionnaire
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, titer, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug Testing within 45 days of start (specific panel required)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination for 2025-26 or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Flu Vaccine Exemption Attestation if applicable
Required Background and Documentation
- Background Check completed within 45 days of start, including 7 years of history and multiple specific searches (SSN Trace, National Sex Offender, Criminal, OIG, etc.)
- I9 form
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (color and current)
- Photo for badge (passport style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings)
- Onboarding Attestation and review of onboarding documents
- Employment Application with 7-year work history, no unexplained gaps over 30 days, active nursing license(s) listed with state, number, and expiration
- 2 supervisory references from past 3 years
- Unit-specific Skills Checklist updated within the last year
License Requirement
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee (Compact or Single State)
- License verification must be current and valid for at least 45 days beyond assignment start date
