Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Night Shift

Unit and Shift Details

  • Unit: Neuro/Ortho, Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 twelve-hour shifts)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday for night shift)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • No prior travel experience required

Licensure and Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri (pending license accepted)
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required
  • NIH Stroke Certification required (must be updated annually)
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) – verify with unit specifics
  • IV Certification not required for RNs but required for LPNs/LVNs if applicable

Job Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Floating within scope of practice to other units is required, except ICU, Step-Down Unit (SDU), and Emergency Department (ED)
  • No on-call duties
  • No block scheduling accommodations
  • Local radius rule: candidates must be outside a 75-mile radius (locals not accepted)

  • Acute Care Hospital with 233 staffed beds
  • Electronic charting system: EPIC

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Missouri-specific background checks including Family Care Safety Registry and Highway Patrol checks
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, covering a comprehensive panel of substances, must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually; onsite fit testing available if needed
  • Immunization and health requirements:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination required (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start (two-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination required; no exemptions allowed for certain units (e.g., Neonatal ICU)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (September 30 – April 1)
    • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)
  • Annual completion of facility-specific regulatory compliance education and HIPAA acknowledgement
  • Completion of facility orientation modules (approximately 16 hours) through online training platform
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required annually; oncology competency required for Med Surg-Oncology unit
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Adherence to facility policies including hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies
  • No weekend block scheduling accommodations
  • Must comply with facility’s floating policy (except ICU, SDU, ED)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum of 2 years telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
