Registered Nurse – CVPICU (Pediatric ICU / Cardiovascular)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel / Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Weekend rotation and some holidays required
Job Description
- Provide care in a high-acuity Pediatric ICU with cardiovascular focus.
- Strong Pediatric ICU experience required.
- At least 1 year of cardiovascular (CV) experience required.
- Candidates with strong Level II experience may be considered.
- First-time travelers allowed if they have 3 years of experience in a high acuity hospital.
- Must have experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
- Telemetry test must be passed prior to start.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of CVPICU experience within the last year
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
- Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience
- At least 1 year of cardiovascular (CV) experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace and nationwide sex offender search.
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID Form required within 90 days of start.
- Education verification as applicable.
- Drug screening required per standard clinical guidelines.
- Physical exam and immunization documentation per facility standards.
- Required health documents include:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or immunity proof (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Varicella vaccination or immunity proof (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required annually during flu season)
- Other vaccines or declinations as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments)
Testing & Competency Requirements
- Facility-specific Pediatric Telemetry Test (WorkRamp LMS) required, with strict passing criteria:
- 80% overall score
- 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory
- Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation after 2nd failure.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- Annual skills checklist required.
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail telemetry testing required.
- Passport-style photo required for badge issuance (no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons).
- Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start.
- Flu vaccine exemptions require specific forms and approvals.
- Medical and religious vaccine exemptions must follow facility protocols.
References & Documentation
- Two clinical references within the last 3 years required.
- Employment application required for all candidates.

- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted with appropriate experience.
