Assignment Length
- 13 weeks
Schedule
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts
- Must be available for scheduled weekends
- Start time: 7:00 AM / 7:00 PM
- Must be ready to go by 6:45 AM / 6:45 PM
Unit Overview
- Intermediate Care Unit
- 30 beds
- Common patient types include chest pain, rule-out MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacer, pre/post caths, and overflow intermediate-acuity patients
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- Must disclose any licensing hits at time of submission
- Must submit a copy of an unexpired driver’s license
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must be able to titrate drips including amiodarone, Cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine, labetalol, nitro, and heparin
Work Expectations
- Ratios are typically 1:5 and may occasionally reach 1:6
- Must float as needed to Tele or MedSurg
- May be assigned up to 1:7 in MedSurg, though this is not common
- Self-scheduling is allowed if unit needs are met
- Up to 4 requested days off per month are allowed
- Travelers should be flexible for holiday coverage
Clinical Support
- Hospitalist in-house 24/7
- Intensivist in ICU 24/7
- Respiratory therapy in-house 24/7
- IV team in-house 24/7
- PICC/Midline team available
- Pharmacy in-house 24/7
Orientation
- First day: approximately 4 hours with HR and 8 hours on the unit with a preceptor
- Second day: on the unit with a preceptor
- After that, the nurse works independently
Additional Notes
- RN scrub color: navy blue top and bottom, with navy scrub jacket; hoodies are not allowed
