Description

Job Summary:
A registered nurse specializing in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) care in Louisville, Kentucky. This position involves providing care within a high-acuity, mixed acuity environment on a comprehensive stroke unit. Candidates are required to bring their nursing license on the first day of shift. The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

Job Details:

  • Location: Louisville, KY
  • Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a clock-in time of 6:53 AM and mandatory attendance at the daily huddle at 7:00 AM.
  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, 2 years of clinical experience in a similar setting (3 years preferred).
  • Responsibilities: Performing neurological assessments, phlebotomy, EKG rhythm analysis, NG/Dobhoff tube management by nurses, port access, medication administration including heparin infusions and Argatroban, managing patients on high-flow oxygen and BiPAP, and utilizing advanced medical equipment such as EMR systems, infusion pumps, monitors, and unit-specific devices.
  • Support within the Department: Includes CNA support, receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy staff, vascular access team, sepsis and rapid response teams, and 24/7 coverage by hospitalists, specialists, intensivists, and remote telemetry monitoring.
  • Additional Information:
    • Patient flow involves 2-3 discharges per day with an average stay of 6-10 days.
    • Staffing ratios are acuity-based (RN: 1:4-6; CNAs: 2 per shift, plus clerical support).
    • Orientation includes 24 hours (3 days) of training, with specific shifts scheduled at week one end and week two start.
    • Weekend rotations occur every other weekend, with no on-call required.
    • Uniform: Galaxy blue scrubs.
    • Parking: Free onsite flat lot with badge access.
    • The unit is characterized by high acuity, led by a new management team, and specializes in stroke care.
