Job Summary
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Nurse located in the healthcare environment specializing in the care of critically ill pediatric patients. This position involves coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care, within a diverse patient population that includes medical, surgical, trauma, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, and pulmonary cases. The role supports professional nursing practice across care settings, emphasizing leadership, mentoring, and quality improvement efforts.

Job Details

  • Position Description: The registered nurse (RN) is responsible for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN practices within the nursing professional practice model, which includes planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The RN exercises leadership through activities such as preceptorship, informal leadership, and quality improvement efforts, delegating patient care based on skill level and patient acuity.
  • Required Qualifications: RN license by applicable state requirements, minimum 2 years of recent acute nursing experience, 6 months of travel experience (1 year preferred), and at least 6 months of PICU RN experience. Experience with Level 1 trauma and intubated patient care is required; solid organ transplant experience is strongly preferred. BLS certification as per state or regional requirements, ECG exam pass during orientation, and cardiac monitoring/telemetry skills are necessary.
  • Schedule: Rotating shifts of 12 hours, scheduled for 36 hours per week, including every third weekend.
  • Additional Information: The role involves performing cardiac monitoring, reading strips, and supporting patients with complex congenital and multi-organ problems, requiring ongoing interventions. ECG exam during orientation is mandatory to continue the assignment. Floating to different units may be required as needed.
