Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse position in Louisville, Kentucky. This role involves providing specialized nursing care within an intermediate/step-down cardiac unit that focuses on post-operative cardiac surgery patients, including those with Coronary Bypass Graft, Valve surgery, chest pain, dysrhythmia, and post-procedure care in the cath lab. The RN will support patient recovery with a focus on cardiac monitoring, post-operative care, and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Nights shifts, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. Starting on 08/17/2026.
• Required Qualifications: Valid license, Basic Life Support (BLS), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, at least 1 year of experience in cardiac or comparable unit, relevant skills including heart monitor interpretation, trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, phlebotomy, and experience with post-op heart surgery patients.
• Preferred Qualifications: ACLS certification.
• Float: Float rotation may be required within scope of practice and as notified approximately 1 hour prior to shift.
• Additional Information:
  • Facility fixed notes emphasize the importance of facility-specific orientation including new employee, patient experience, and nursing orientation days.
  • Support staff include two Patient Care Assistants (PCA) or Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) on days, one on nights, and one Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) on days.
  • The unit utilizes EMR system Cernero, with medication dispensing via Omnicell, monitors from Phillips, and ICU-specific equipment such as external pacers and pulse generators.
  • Scrub color is Galaxy Blue, with free badge access parking.
  • Carefully review the skills required, including drips (Primacor, amiodarone, dobutamine, heparin), cardiac assessments, and post-op cardiac care.
