Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse

Location: Tucson, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 07:30)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Unit Characteristics: Smaller unit, no trauma level designation, treats all ages and diagnoses, transfers stroke and STEMI patients to another campus
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrubs Color: Caribbean Blue
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days or less preferred
  • Local Candidates: Not eligible if residing within 75 miles of the facility

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Arizona
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
    • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification

Orientation

  • Orientation held twice monthly

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Current driver’s license or state ID with address verification
  • Background checks including multi-county/state searches and federal exclusions (must be completed within 30 days of assignment start)
  • Employment application with detailed 7-year work history and explanation of any gaps over 30 days
  • Two professional references from the last 3 years, including one supervisory reference
  • Annual skills checklist update
  • Facility-specific job description acknowledgment
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG and medication (80% passing score required; remediation and retesting policies apply)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam (80% passing score required)
  • HIPAA competency (annual, 80% passing score required)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician, NP, or PA
  • Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year (PAPR allowed onsite)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declinations allowed except for certain pediatric units)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – proof of vaccination or positive titer; no declinations allowed
    • Varicella – proof of vaccination or positive titer; no declinations allowed
    • Hepatitis B – proof of vaccination or positive titer; declinations allowed with signed form
  • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON Gold, Tspot, or PPD) within 3 months of start, renewed annually; if positive, chest x-ray required within 1 year
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30) or approved medical/religious exemption with facility-specific form
  • Drug testing: 12-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start, must be initiated within 72 hours of booking

Additional Notes

  • This position does not accept first-time travel nurses due to unit size and experience needs
  • The unit is not a stroke or STEMI receiving center; patients are stabilized and transferred as needed
  • Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail testing during orientation with potential contract review if tests are failed twice
