Description
Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery
Facility: University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center
Location: La Plata, MD
Start Date: 08/24/2026
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
Schedule: 36 or 48 hours/week, every other weekend, holidays as scheduled
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes - Float required within Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby/Postpartum.
Call Requirement: None
Position Overview:
Job duties:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for laboring patients throughout the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum phases.
- Monitor maternal and fetal status using external/internal fetal monitoring and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
- Assist with vaginal deliveries, circulate for Cesarean sections, and provide immediate newborn stabilization and care.
- Administer labor medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and blood products as ordered.
- Educate and support patients and families with postpartum recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding, and discharge planning.
Requirements:
License: Active Maryland RN License or Compact RN License
Experience: Minimum 1 year Labor & Delivery RN experience (2 years preferred); first-time travelers accepted
Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, STABLE, NCC C-EFM (required at submission), CPI, NIHSS; AWHONN Intermediate/Advanced preferred
Other requirement: Experience circulating C-sections, fetal monitoring, newborn care, obstetrical triage, and willingness to float within the Women's Services department.

Patient Ratios: 1:2 (Days/Nights/Weekends)
Patient Population: Neonates, Adolescents, Adults
Patient Diagnoses: Laboring mothers, antepartum and postpartum patients, Cesarean section patients, pregnancy-induced hypertension, postpartum hemorrhage, newborns requiring routine stabilization and Level I nursery care.
