Job Opportunity: Clinical Nurse Educator - Maternal Child Health
Location: Ithaca, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Job Summary
- Responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of orientation for all new Maternal Child Health (MCH) employees.
- Provide continuing education for established MCH staff.
- Collaborate with unit leadership to ensure compliance with Nursing Professional Development scope of practice and relevant nursing governing bodies.
- Serve as a registered nurse on the MCH unit during high census or staffing shortages as directed.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee orientation process for new MCH employees, including planning, evaluation, and reporting at 30 and 60 days in preparation for 90-day evaluations.
- Maintain educational documentation and checklists for all MCH staff to prepare for Joint Commission and Department of Health surveys.
- Develop and deliver education on policy updates, new equipment, and process changes.
- Provide Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training and coordinate annual CPR and ACLS certifications for MCH staff.
- Organize annual unit skills day and document staff participation.
- Coordinate drills on high-risk procedures/topics across various shifts to maximize staff participation.
- Act as point person for new products, equipment troubleshooting, recalls, and interface with bioengineering and IT for equipment implementation.
- Fill in as bedside nurse when staffing is inadequate or census is high.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an educator.
- Educator experience within the last year.
- Maternal-Newborn nursing experience.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Current PALS certification.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., computer keyboard use).
- Ability to perform light lifting related to patient care.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods during office work or patient care.
- Must be physically capable of operating job-related equipment.
Onboarding & Compliance Requirements
Health & Immunizations
- MMR: Positive IgG titer or documented 2-dose vaccine series required.
- Varicella: Positive IgG titer or documented 2-dose vaccine series required.
- Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3-dose vaccine series, or signed declination form required.
- Tdap: Must be current within the last 10 years or have a signed declination form.
- TB Test: Must have recent testing (PPD or Quantiferon) within 12 months; follow-up chest X-ray if prior positive. Annual requirement.
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Optional to upload proof or declination.
Fit Testing
- Must complete fit test within 12 months prior to start. On-site fit testing available if needed.
Drug Screening & Background Checks
- 9+ panel drug screen excluding marijuana (per New York state regulations).
- Comprehensive background checks including national and county criminal searches, FACIS 3, and multiple registry checks.
Documentation
- Valid US driver’s license or state ID (not expired).
- Physical exam within past 12 months with no restrictions, including vitals and vision screening.
- Color headshot photo (professional, no filters).
- Resume covering last 7 years of employment and education history.
- Two professional references: one from the last 12 months and one from the last 3 years.
- Employment and education verifications as required.
- Signed job description and various compliance forms (code of conduct, sexual harassment acknowledgment, etc.).

- Prior travel experience is not specified as a requirement.
- This role includes both educator and clinical nursing responsibilities.
- The assignment length is approximately 13 weeks.
