Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Illinois
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Med Surg / Telemetry (1 year of experience)
Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
BLS issued by American Heart Association
NIHSS
Total joint replacement experience
PCA pump management experience
Reversal drug administration experience (Narcan)
Sepsis management experience
TPN and Lipids administration experience
Narcotic usage and management experience
Heparin titration experience
Ortho Trauma experience
Experience with Epic

Schedule

3 shifts per week
Starts at 7:00
Every other weekend
Holiday rotation with core staff
No call or standby

Unit Details

Med Surg/Telemetry inpatient surgical unit
48 beds across two buildings
Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-6 on nights; 1:5-6 with LPN support
Primary care nursing model is frequently used
Tele monitor tech monitors the unit
Charge nurse may take a smaller assignment
CNA support is available, though CNAs may be pulled to sit
Float only to similar units; if floated to higher acuity, the nurse works as help without a patient load

Clinical Setting

Common patient types include neuro, orthopedic, abdominal surgery, vascular, dialysis-related, diabetes, pain management, sepsis, and urgent OR cases
Heparin drips are titrated by RNs
CPAP is managed by respiratory therapy; BiPAP may occasionally stay on the unit
Airvo may be used

Orientation

1 shift of unit orientation on the shift and unit of hire
First day includes 12-14 hours for competency work, computer-based modules, and general orientation

Additional Notes

Black scrubs
Fast-paced unit with heavy patients
Billable computer modules are required before start
