Registered Nurse – Med Surg Telemetry

Location

Farmington, New Mexico
Level II Trauma Center
Medical Unit with 43 beds
Patient population: Adults (≥18 years)
Patient ratios: 1:5 and 1:6

Employment Details

Travel assignment
Contract length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 7 PM – 7 AM
Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Weekend shifts: At least 2 per month recommended
Float requirements: As needed by facility

Unit & Facility Information

Medical unit equipped with VS machines, bladder scanners, IV pumps, thermal imaging, lifts, and tube feeding pumps
Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
Common patient diagnoses: cirrhosis, sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory illnesses, wounds, congestive heart failure (CHF)

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience specifically in Med Surg Telemetry nursing

Additional Information

Block scheduling considered on a case-by-case basis
Call requirements: None
Hiring process includes submission of resume, competency exam, skills checklist, and screening questions

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
