Job Description
- Evaluate and treat patients of all ages in an acute therapy setting.
- Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
- Perform patient transfers safely with assistance as needed.
- Use safe body mechanics to reduce injury risk.
- Design and adjust individualized plans of care integrating goals, treatments, outcomes, and discharge plans.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
- Evaluate clinical findings to determine therapy diagnoses and outcomes.
- Perform examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
- Screen patients to assess the need and effectiveness of therapy services.
- Utilize support personnel according to legal and ethical standards; monitor and provide feedback on their care delivery.
- Document evaluations, plans of care, treatment modifications, and patient responses according to policy.
- Implement functional and emotionally considerate intervention plans.
- Modify approaches based on patient behavior and performance.
- Use standardized outcome measures consistently to reflect functional performance.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and significant others throughout rehabilitation; provide education and family training.
- Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehabilitation technicians per regulatory guidelines.
- Communicate patient status, activity/transfer recommendations, discharge disposition, and equipment needs clearly with the medical team.
Patient Population and Setting
- Inpatient opportunities in a ~500-bed Level 1 Trauma center.
- 20-bed inpatient rehab unit with >50% neurological cases (e.g., CVA, TBI, nTBI, SCI), lower extremity amputation, multi-trauma.
- Approximately 170 patients on acute occupational therapy caseload.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
- Support personnel management
