Job Description

• Evaluate and treat patients of all ages in an acute therapy setting.
• Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
• Perform patient transfers safely with assistance as needed.
• Use safe body mechanics to reduce injury risk.
• Design and adjust individualized plans of care integrating goals, treatments, outcomes, and discharge plans.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
• Evaluate clinical findings to determine therapy diagnoses and outcomes.
• Perform examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
• Screen patients to assess the need and effectiveness of therapy services.
• Utilize support personnel according to legal and ethical standards; monitor and provide feedback on their care delivery.
• Document evaluations, plans of care, treatment modifications, and patient responses according to policy.
• Implement functional and emotionally considerate intervention plans.
• Modify approaches based on patient behavior and performance.
• Use standardized outcome measures consistently to reflect functional performance.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and significant others throughout rehabilitation; provide education and family training.
• Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehabilitation technicians per regulatory guidelines.
• Communicate patient status, activity/transfer recommendations, discharge disposition, and equipment needs clearly with the medical team.

Patient Population and Setting

• Inpatient opportunities in a ~500-bed Level 1 Trauma center.
• 20-bed inpatient rehab unit with >50% neurological cases (e.g., CVA, TBI, nTBI, SCI), lower extremity amputation, multi-trauma.
• Approximately 170 patients on acute occupational therapy caseload.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
• Support personnel management
