Occupational Therapist - Acute Therapy

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (8 hours/day, 40 hours/week)


Job Summary

  • Evaluate and treat patients of all ages in an acute therapy setting.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
  • Design and adjust individualized plans of care integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and medical teams throughout the rehabilitation process.
  • Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehabilitation technicians.
  • Document evaluations, treatment plans, patient responses, and discharge recommendations in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

Essential Functions

  • Perform patient transfers safely with assistance as needed.
  • Demonstrate safe body mechanics to reduce injury risk.
  • Conduct examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
  • Screen patients to determine therapy needs and effectiveness.
  • Use and monitor support personnel according to legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Utilize standardized outcome measures to accurately reflect functional performance.
  • Modify intervention approaches based on patient behavior and performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
