Registered Nurse – Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CVICU/CICU)
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Specialty: Pediatric Cardiac ICU / Cardiovascular ICU / Cardiac ICU
- Patient Population: Critically ill children and adults with congenital heart disease
- Shift: 50/50 day/night rotation (7a–7p) or permanent nights (Night shift example: 7:30pm–7:00am, 3 shifts/week, 12 hours each)
- Float Opportunities: Medical/Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, Neonatal ICU, Acute Care Cardiac Unit
- Weekend Requirement: 3 out of every 6 weekends
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CVPICU), with at least some experience within the last year
- Current certifications from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with both pediatric and adult patients
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 10-year criminal background check within 6 months prior to start, including aliases and multiple federal/state databases
- Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance within 6 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Proof of Name Change if applicable (for any documents under different names)
- State RN license verification within 30 days of start
- Professional certification verification within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared to work with no restrictions
- Immunizations and health screenings (must be current and documented):
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap after age 11 only)
- Negative TB test (T-Spot or QuantiFERON within 90 days or 2-step PPD)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer
- Varicella – proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer
- Hepatitis B – series completion or declination with documentation
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
- COVID-19 initial vaccine series or approved exemption; seasonal COVID vaccine highly preferred
- Drug Screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for advanced practice nurses)
- Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required for all travelers, completed via virtual questionnaire prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Employment application with 10-year work history; gaps over 30 days require explanation
- Two professional references from two separate employers within the last three places of employment
- Unit-specific skills checklist within one year prior to start
- Completion of facility-specific onboarding packet prior to start
- Completion of required exemption forms if applicable (flu, COVID)
- Timely submission of required forms and documentation to avoid delays
Notes
- On-call duties are not required
- Candidates must be prepared to work weekends as specified
- Facility requires strict adherence to background check and immunization policies
- Prior travel experience is mandatory; first-time travelers will not be considered
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric cardiac ICU nurses with prior travel assignments who are comfortable with critical care of congenital heart disease patients and flexible scheduling including weekends and night shifts.
