Position Details

  • Job Title: Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry)
  • Location: Madison, Wisconsin
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night shift, 12-hour shifts (1900 - 0730), approximately 36 hours per week
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Dates Available: August 3 or August 17
  • Weekend Rotation: Yes, including some holidays based on operational need

Job Description

  • Provide acute care nursing with a focus on medical-surgical and telemetry patients.
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to starting the assignment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.
  • Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical and telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance and Screening Requirements

  • Background checks including nationwide criminal, sex offender, and state-specific caregiver screening within 90 days prior to start.
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID Form required and must be stored in compliance files.
  • Drug screening required per standard clinical candidate protocols.
  • Education verification as applicable.
  • Physical exam and fit mask completed onsite (physical exam collected to meet agency standards).
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TB testing or chest X-ray with questionnaire.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers; medical or religious exemptions allowed with proper documentation.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer; medical or religious exemptions allowed.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form if declining.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof as applicable.
    • Meningococcal vaccine or declination if working in specific departments.
  • Signed acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing policies.
  • References: Two clinical references within the last 3 years required.
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required.

Testing and Competency Exams

  • Telemetry exams (Adult and Pediatric) must be completed through the facility’s Learning Management System (LMS) with strict passing criteria:
    • Minimum 80% overall score.
    • 100% in lethal rhythms and heart block subcategories.
    • Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation required after 2nd failure.
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
  • Color blindness testing required if working in laboratory or dialysis areas.

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge must be a passport-style photo meeting specific criteria (no selfies, solid background, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons).
  • Medical and religious exemption forms for vaccines must follow facility-specific approval processes.
  • Background checks with pending or convicted charges require additional review before start.
  • Facility requires ongoing monthly monitoring for certain background checks post-hire.

This position is ideal for experienced acute care RNs comfortable with telemetry patients, night shifts, and working in a fast-paced hospital environment with strict compliance and testing requirements.
