Performs radiographic procedures by acquiring and processing patient exams according to department protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
Reviews cases with the radiologist when appropriate.
Reviews labs and patient history to perform the correct exam.
Administers IV, oral, and rectal contrast when appropriate.
Recognizes and responds to adverse or allergic reactions.
Screens for pregnancy and performs pregnancy testing if applicable.
Reviews radiology orders for completeness and accuracy.
Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity.
Obtains additional information from the patient, ordering provider, and/or radiologist when needed.
Transfers and verifies image data in PACS and provides necessary medical history and information for radiologist interpretation.
Maintains imaging equipment, supply inventories, and work area orderliness.
Reports equipment malfunctions and service needs in a timely manner.
Ensures patient, visitor, and environmental safety and reports safety events immediately, including near misses.
Assists in instruction of students and new staff as necessary.
May perform duties of Rad Tech Lead or Imaging Coordinator in their absence.
May be required to perform duties of other modalities within the department for which the technologist/sonographer is licensed.
Assists other areas during downtimes to maintain productivity.
