Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

41-bed progressive care trauma/telemetry unit focused on adult patients recovering from traumatic injuries, often post-surgical intervention.
Patient diagnoses include surgical trauma such as gunshot wounds, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls.
Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4, flexing to 1:5 as needed.
Telemetry monitoring available for up to 14 patients; 7 East and West patients are hemodynamically stable.
Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary.

Schedule & Hours

Night shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (19:00 - 7:30)
36 hours per week
6 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Current certifications in:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
