ICU Registered Nurse

Location

• Merced, California

Contract

• 13 weeks
• Travel contract
• Nights, 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Active California RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• 2 full years of ICU experience
• Must be comfortable floating to telemetry and med-surg units
• Must be comfortable taking a full patient load when floated
• Must be comfortable with vents and the ABCDE bundle
• Strong IV skills

Schedule Expectations

• 2 weekends per 4 weeks
• Every other major holiday
• No block scheduling or schedule requests
• Travelers are first to float

Unit Details

• ICU
• 20 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
• Charge nurse does not take patients
• No nurse aides

Clinical Setting

• May be deployed to the ED for boarded ICU patients
• May work in the ICU if placed on standby
• Common patient types include sepsis, DKA/hyperglycemia, pneumonia, COPD, PCI cardiac services, CVA, post-surgical ICU recovery, GI bleeds, and patients receiving versed, propofol, or norepinephrine

Support Services

• Respiratory therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• Internal medicine available 24/7
• Pulmonologist support available
• RT manages vents

Orientation

• 2 ICU shifts
• 1 floor unit orientation shift

Additional Notes

• Navy scrubs
• Cerner EMR
• Prefer CCRN
• Basic critical care course preferred
