Job Details

  • Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Length: 8-hour shifts primarily; also 10- and 12-hour shifts available
  • Shift Times: Varied start times including 7a-3:30p, 7a-5:30p, 9a-5p, 11a-7p, 3p-11p, and 11p-11a
  • Scheduling: No self-scheduling for travelers; block scheduling allowed if it meets unit needs
  • Orientation: 1 week, 3 shifts

Unit Information

  • 9 Operating Rooms, 1 procedure room, 1 hybrid room
  • Open 24/7
  • Average 35-45 cases per day
  • Case Types: General surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopedic including robotics (Da Vinci, Rosa), neuro spine, trauma, vascular (AV fistulas, carotids, angiograms, femoral-popliteal bypasses, BKA), pediatric dental and ENT, emergent cases (appendectomies, stabbings, craniotomies)
  • Exclusions: Cardiovascular OR and Labor & Delivery (C-sections)

Required Qualifications

  • RN license valid for West Virginia
  • 2-3 years of experience in OR nursing specialty
  • 2-3 previous travel assignments required
  • Orthopedic experience required
  • Experience with passing arms in and out for robotic surgeries (Da Vinci, Rosa)
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required; PALS preferred
  • Scrubbing experience is a plus but not required
  • Must be comfortable working overnight shifts as the only RN with 2 techs

Call and On-Call Requirements

  • One weeknight on-call per week (7p-7a), rotating schedule for RN and CST
  • One weekday call every two weeks (Monday-Thursday, nights and weekends 7p-7a, 7p-11p)
  • One weekend 24-hour on-call shift per month (7a-7p)
  • Holiday call rotation as needed
  • Call response time: 30 minutes; if more than 30 minutes away, must stay on site while on call

Additional Information

  • Charge nurse coverage from 7a-7p; travelers rotate through charge nurse duties
  • Floating to outpatient surgery may be required
  • Scrubs provided for RNs and OR techs
  • No aides or housekeeping staff; techs responsible for room turnover
  • Facility supports teaching or refresher opportunities for nurses with minimal experience in one service line (primarily Monday-Friday day shifts)
  • Night and late shifts require comprehensive experience across all specialties
