Registered Nurse - Med Surg (Telemetry)

Location: Wilson, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Work on a Telemetry unit with adult and geriatric patient populations.
Facility has 22 beds with patient ratios of 5:1 or 6:1.
Shift options: 7 AM or 7 PM.
Weekly guaranteed hours: 36 hours.
Weekend hours: 12 hours every other or every third weekend.
No call requirements.
Float requirements apply (may be asked to float to Med/Surg Overflow).
Electronic Health Record system: Meditech EMR.
Equipment used includes Welch Allyn V/S machine, Hoyer Lift with weight scale, Abbott Glucometer, Computers on Wheels, TR band, Baxter IV pumps.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
Minimum 1.5 years of Telemetry nursing experience, with Telemetry experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Pros

Doctors and most of staff are nice. Surgeries are not hard.

Cons

No staff so a lot of call. You will be on call within your first week or two, even if you don't know how to do anything. Unorganized. The director and supervisor don't know anything about the OR nor are they helpful. New staff are not properly trained. Everything falls on the OR nurse to do. They preop in house patients getting surgery. A couple of OR staff are bullies and lazy, they all think they are the boss. They tell the charge nurse what they are going to do and not going to do. Its like high school all over. Had to leave out of fear for my license.
