Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 17 weeks
Work Schedule
- Shifts: Day/Evening/Night options
- Shift patterns include:
- 2 shifts of 8 hours plus 2 shifts of 10 hours, or
- 3 shifts of 12 hours
- Start times: 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, or 10:30 AM
- Workdays: Monday through Friday
- Weekday on-call responsibility from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- PM rotation required every 10-12 weeks, working until 11:00 PM
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric PACU (Post Anesthetic Care) experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications & Testing
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
- Telemetry testing:
- Pediatric Telemetry test required for all pediatric inpatient units (NICU, PICU, Pediatric unit)
- Testing must be completed through the designated LMS platform before start date
- Candidates have up to 3 attempts with remediation required after 2nd failure
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form required
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire and monitored monthly
- Education verification as applicable
- Drug screening required per standard clinical guidelines
- Physical exam recommended to meet agency standards (not facility-mandated)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Proof of Tdap vaccination (one dose from adulthood) required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella):
- 2 doses of MMR vaccine or positive titers required
- Medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
- Varicella:
- 2 doses of vaccine or positive titer required
- Medical or religious exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or documented declination required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season (09/22 – 04/13)
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in Microbiology department
Additional Requirements
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
- Signed acknowledgment of pass/fail testing for Telemetry exam
- References: 2 clinical references within last 3 years (agency standard)
- Employment application and annual skills checklist required
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
- All certifications must be current and issued by the American Heart Association where applicable
- Strict deadlines apply for Telemetry testing and certification renewals
- Facility-specific forms and waivers for vaccine exemptions must be completed and approved as required
This position offers a structured weekday schedule with a mix of shift lengths and requires specialized pediatric PACU experience and certifications. Compliance with extensive background, health, and competency requirements is mandatory.
