Unit Overview
- Unit Type: Medical/Telemetry/Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Number of Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day: 1:4-5
- Night: Occasional 5-6
- PCU overflow: 1:3
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions including cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, alcohol-related issues, COVID-19 (including BiPAP patients), general surgical patients with heart history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis
- Unit Focus: Telemetry and cardiac care
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- PCU experience mandatory
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips independently
- Experience with titrating drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine (no Levophed)
- Experience with telemetry/cardiac nursing preferred
- Epic electronic health record experience preferred but not required
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers are welcome
Job Responsibilities
- Provide PCU-level nursing care including telemetry monitoring and cardiac patient management
- Titrate and manage cardiac drips as ordered
- Read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
- Collaborate with charge nurses who occasionally take light patient assignments
- Work with nurse aides/patient care technicians (goal ratio 1:10)
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, tracheostomies, and Airvo devices
- Float as needed to other areas including PCU, medical-surgical, and emergency room holds/boarding
Scheduling & Orientation
- Shift Schedule: 7a-7p (day shift) with occasional weekly rotation to nights (7p-7a) possible but limited
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) on Friday and Saturday of the first week; independent by Sunday
- Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed
Additional Information
- Telemetry monitors available in rooms and at nurse’s station with dedicated telemetry tech support
- Charge nurse present on each shift
- Floating required to assist other units as needed
- Candidates must live within a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently employed part-time, full-time, or PRN with any related healthcare system facilities
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no extensions allowed
