Shift Details

  • Night shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
  • Shift hours: 18:45 to 7:15
  • 36 hours per week

Unit and Patient Population

  • Medical-Surgical unit with Oncology patients
  • Patient diagnoses include AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, Diabetic foot ulcers, and others
  • Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection) required
  • Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
  • Daily census approximately 42 patients; ratios may increase with census surge

Required Skills and Experience

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Oncology experience within the last year, minimum 1 year of oncology experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • Med Surg experience
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line blood draws
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • Heparin administration
  • Management of surgical drains
  • Management of chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • Must be able to administer chemotherapy if needed
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
  • Charge nurse experience
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)

Call, Float, and Weekend Requirements

  • Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
  • Floating required to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations, including inpatient holding in the Emergency Department
  • Every other weekend required

Orientation and Training

  • Unit orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
  • Attendance at monthly staff meetings required
  • Expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments during catastrophic events or disasters

Documentation and Systems

  • Medication, documentation, and communication systems used: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR
  • Scrubs color: Navy blue and white

Compliance and Health Requirements

  • Background check required within 6 months prior to start
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months prior to start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; additional documentation required if history of positive TB
  • Required immunizations or titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 to 10/31)
  • Physical exam not required for this crisis assignment
  • Must complete facility-specific mandatory education and compliance training prior to start
  • Must complete Medication Safety module and provide certificate of completion
  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (for North Carolina travel candidates)

  • Social Security card (if used for I9)
  • Emergency contact form
  • Confidentiality agreement
  • Various accounting and tax documents (W4, direct deposit, etc.)
  • Education verification for highest degree earned (pending allowed if license valid)
  • Skills checklist or competency exam as part of clearance
  • Radiation badge not required for this unit

  • No return to origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
  • Shifts called out must be made up
  • Candidate must provide a passport-style photo on a white background for badge creation immediately after signing contract
  • Candidates must complete the Corp ID setup and log into the learning system within 24 hours of receiving credentials to avoid start delays
