Job Description

• Evaluate and treat patients of all ages in an acute therapy setting.
• Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
• Perform patient transfers with assistance as needed, using safe body mechanics.
• Design and adjust individualized plans of care integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge planning.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
• Conduct examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
• Screen patients to determine the need and effectiveness of therapy services.
• Supervise support personnel (COTA and rehabilitation technicians) according to legal and ethical standards.
• Document evaluations, plans of care, treatment modifications, and patient responses in compliance with policies and regulations.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and medical teams throughout the rehabilitation process.
• Communicate patient status, transfer/activity recommendations, discharge disposition, and equipment needs clearly.

Patient Population & Setting

• Inpatient opportunities in a ~500-bed Level 1 Trauma center.
• 20-bed inpatient rehab unit with over 50% neuro cases (e.g., CVA, TBI, SCI), lower extremity amputation, multi-trauma.
• Approximately 170 patients on acute occupational therapy caseload.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
