Overview
- 13-week contract
- Location: Quincy, Illinois
- Shift: Nights, 3 x 12-hour shifts starting at 7
- Hours: 48 per week
- Float scope: Float to like units only; if floated to higher acuity, work as a help-all and do not take a patient load
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
- Med Surg / Telemetry (1 year of experience)
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- Surgical experience
- Experience with Epic
- Experience with total joint replacement (hips/knees)
- Understanding of PCA pumps
- Experience with reversal drugs (narcan)
- Sepsis management
- Experience with TPN/Lipids
- Narcotic usage
- Experience titrating heparin
Unit Details
- Med Surg/Tele inpatient surgical unit on the 3rd floor
- 48 beds across two buildings
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-6 on nights; 1:5-6 with LPN support, virtual admission and discharge nurses, and primary care nursing model frequently used
- Tele monitor tech monitors the unit
- Charge nurse may take a smaller assignment
- CNA support is available, though CNAs may be pulled to sitters
- RT manages CPAP and BiPAP; Airvo may be used
Schedule and Work Expectations
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday rotation with core staff
- No call or standby
- Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed
Additional Information
- Black scrubs
- 4 hours of billable computer modules are required before start and should be added to the first week’s timesheet
- First day orientation is 12-14 hours
- Fast-paced unit with heavy patients and frequent surgical admits/discharges
