Unit Overview

10-bed ICU/PCU overflow unit
Ratios: 2:1 ICU, 4–5:1 PCU
No unit secretaries or PCTs
Charge nurse is out of staffing
Day shift staffing: 1 charge RN, 5 staff RNs
Night shift staffing: 1 charge RN, 5 staff RNs

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in North Carolina
PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience
BLS
ACLS
Ventilator management
Critical care pharmacology (IV sedation, paralytics, vasopressors)
Advanced hemodynamic monitoring
Central line management

Skills and Experience

Ventilator management
Critical care pharmacology, including IV sedation, paralytics, and vasopressors
Advanced hemodynamic monitoring
Central line management

Procedures

Assisting providers with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertion and intubations

Work Environment

Bedside shift report is mandatory
Relief charge nurse is expected to perform nurse leader rounding
Equipment includes lift equipment, targeted temperature management, ventilators, and IV pumps

Dress Code

Navy blue or white scrubs
