Travel RN Opportunity – Neurosciences Unit

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Unit: 6 West Neurosciences (36 beds)

Unit Overview

Staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 6 RNs, 3 CNAs, 1 HUC
- Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 6 RNs, 2 CNAs, 1 HUC
Patient Ratios:
- Day Shift: 5:1 standard, 6:1 stretch
- Night Shift: 7:1 stretch
Equipment: Standard Med Surge Equipment
EMR System: Cerner

Required Skills & Certifications

Must Have:
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Preferred:
- Neuro experience
Certifications Required:
- ACLS
- NIH
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Licensure:
- Registered Nurse License

Typical Procedures

Foley catheter insertion
IV starts

Work Environment & Culture

Personality Fit: Outgoing, self-motivated
Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Floating: May float to other med surge floors
Orientation: New staff reference book provided at start of contract
Schedule: Every other weekend required

13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Pros

Lots of other travelers, nice approachable management that are on the floor in scrubs to help not criticize, updated cerner launch point, staff helps other staff, security is able to protect staff, PD is at hospital

Cons

Charge is only available to help with traumas otherwise they sit at their desk, techs assign pts to ER rooms making very heavy patient loads with multiple traumas with other nurse assignments being very light, not enough policies to protect nurses from verbal and physical violence from patients
