Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry (Day Shift)

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Day, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Summary

  • MedSurg Telemetry unit with patient ratio of 1:7
  • Must be proficient in EPIC electronic health record system (no exceptions)
  • Required to work nights, weekdays, every other weekend (EOW), float, and holidays within contract
  • Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hours (overtime after 48 hours) – indicate preference

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • One completed travel nursing assignment
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience in neurology and stroke patient care

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Zero tolerance for any license or background hits; candidates with any hits will not be considered
  • 7-year criminal background check required within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal
  • Fingerprinting required via Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check (see fingerprinting guide)
  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service
  • Proof of diploma or transcript may be required
  • Must complete and submit Qualivis Cover Sheet and current NURSYS report including all Return to Office (RTO) documentation

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Pass/fail EKG competency test at orientation (minimum 80% score required; one attempt only)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for MS/Tele RNs
  • Color blindness test (100% passing score required; retake allowed once)
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing for cardiac monitor reading competence

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Fit test for any N95 mask within 1 year of start (PAPR not allowed)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; annual testing required
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within past 10 years (no exemptions accepted)
  • Required immunization titers within 10 years or documented declinations for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella (declination allowed except for Mother Baby or infant/peds specialties)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually by October 31 (medical/religious exemptions allowed with mask requirement)
  • COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required; documentation collected if available
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Passport-style photo (shoulders up, front facing, plain background) required before start
  • Completion of facility-specific job description and skills checklist annually
  • Proof of 2 professional references required
  • Complete employment application/resume required
  • TB questionnaire required if worked longer than 1 year with facility
  • Vehicle registration form required before start
  • Pyxis acknowledgment form required within 48 hours of signing (RNs only)
  • COVID-19 and flu exemption forms available if applicable

Additional Notes

  • Patient ratio is 1:7; candidates must confirm acceptance of this ratio before submission
  • This is an auto-offer position
  • Candidates must be prepared to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and float assignments within the contract period

This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg Telemetry RNs with neurology/stroke patient care background and prior travel nursing experience who are EPIC proficient and meet strict compliance and health requirements.
