ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Springfield, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Unit: Neuro Trauma ICU
  • Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (1900-0730)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly on Mondays; includes 4-hour float orientation
  • Float: Required within scope to CVICU, Telemetry, Acute Care (neurology, surgical, ortho/med), Obs, and ED boarding
  • Weekend: Flexibility required, scheduled based on unit needs
  • Locals: Not accepted
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • On-call: Not required

Required Experience & Skills

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Neuro Trauma ICU
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years preferred; 1 year acceptable if recent experience in a large facility
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred 2-3 prior completed travel assignments; first-timers not accepted
  • Epic Charting: Recent Epic experience required
  • Trauma Experience: Previous trauma nursing experience required
  • Clinical Skills:
    • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
    • Multi-system organ failure care
    • Thermoregulation (hypothermia/hyperthermia)
    • Pre/Post cardiac catheterization/intervention care
    • IV insulin protocols
    • Chronic/acute renal failure management
    • Arterial line, central line, PICC line management
    • Starting IVs, continuous IV sedation
    • Emergency medication administration
    • Procedural sedation and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun use
    • BiPAP, CPAP management assistance
    • Chest tube insertion/removal assistance
    • Ventilator management and suctioning (ETT, NT)
    • Infection prevention and isolation precautions
    • Surgical wound care with drains and wound vac
    • Temporary pacer management

  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (T-CAR) – required 1 year after assignment start date (not required before start)

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Oregon

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 60 days of start (7-year search including SSN trace, counties/states lived/worked, federal and national criminal checks)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start and every 45 days thereafter
  • Social Security verification required (may start pending verification if I-9 and eVerify are on file)
  • Education verification required (transcripts/diploma acceptable if school closed)
  • Color blind testing required
  • Employment application required
  • Criminal disclosure statement signed prior to start
  • Photo for badge (passport style with white or gray background)
  • Confirmation of standards checklist to be completed
  • Dress code policy to be reviewed prior to start
  • ID badge and parking form to be completed prior to start
  • Personnel restrictions due to illness policy to be reviewed
  • Masking policy to be reviewed; N95 fit testing onsite if providing patient care (annual update required)
  • Flu vaccine or declination documentation required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccine religious exemption forms required if applicable
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start (includes multiple drug panels; marijuana testing required for Oregon)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccination series, or declination)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccination, history, or declination)
  • Respiratory safety clearance required for onsite candidates, updated annually

Orientation & Training

  • Must complete orientation manual review and orientation information quiz with 100% score prior to start
  • Orientation checklist to be completed on first day and returned within 30 days
  • ICU packet review required prior to start (includes charting expectations)
  • Stroke CEUs required annually (NIHSS can count for up to 3 CEUs)

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Trauma ICU RNs with prior travel assignments, strong trauma and critical care skills, and recent Epic experience. Flexibility with floating and weekend scheduling is required.


Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
  • Trauma nursing experience
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (T-CAR) certification
