Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Schedule: Every other weekend; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
Time Off: Up to 40 hours can be approved for time off; no time off approved on Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day


Unit & Patient Population

  • 17-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
  • Patients admitted from Emergency Department, Medical ICU, clinics, outside hospitals, or nursing facilities
  • Wide range of medical diagnoses including diabetes, sickle cell crisis, COPD exacerbations, ESRD with pulmonary hypertension, wounds, drains, and tubes

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not explicitly required

Orientation & Testing

  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams required as applicable

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Education verification required; BSN preferred, ASN required if no BSN
  • Drug screening (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl) within 2 months of start, updated annually
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (no exemptions allowed)
    • 2-step TB test or Qgold within 12 months (Chest X-ray if positive)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody positive titer required (specific lab requirements apply)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; declination required if negative)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (no exemptions)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Various facility-specific forms and screenings must be completed prior to start
  • Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if needed

Additional Notes

  • Candidate may be approved for 36 or 48 hours per week but standard is 36 hours
  • Block scheduling is not guaranteed
  • Time off requests cannot be approved for major holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day)
  • Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health candidates only (not applicable here)

This position offers a challenging and diverse clinical environment on a medical-surgical telemetry unit with a focus on acute medical conditions and complex patient care. Night shift travel nurses with Epic experience and required certifications are encouraged to apply.
