Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical ICU (MICU)

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Medical-Surgical ICU
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Charting System: Epic

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred in specialty
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)* – as applicable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)* – as applicable

*Additional certifications such as NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, CPI, MAB may be required as applicable.


Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas
  • Primary source online license verification required (e.g., NURSYS)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • E-Verify compliance or attestation as applicable
  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Education verification of highest level completed
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted
    • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history of chickenpox
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)

  • Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
  • 7-year work history verification required
  • Complete employment application/resume required
  • Clear headshot photo for badge

Restrictions

  • Candidates residing in the following Texas counties are not eligible for travel contracts: Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris.

Notes

  • Orientation and fingerprinting requirements apply for certain states (not Texas)
  • Some certifications and competencies may be required depending on unit needs and facility policies

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
