Registered Nurse (Medical Acute Care) – Night Shift
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Unit: Medical Acute Care Unit (20 beds)
Job Overview
- Work on a general medical unit with common diagnoses typical of medical acute care.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Day shift: 1:4 or 1:5
- Night shift: 1:5 or 1:6
- Telemetry patients are monitored by dedicated techs; bedside RNs do not read telemetry strips.
- Patient care technicians (PCTs) support nursing staff:
- Day ratio: 1 PCT per 6-7 patients
- Night ratio: 1 PCT per 10 patients
- Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7; charge nurse may take patient assignments if short-staffed.
- Floating: Travel RNs float first; otherwise, floating is on a rotation basis.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: 3 out of 6 holidays annually
- Call or standby may be required depending on staffing needs.
- No specific scrub color preference; scrubs are not provided.
- Unit-specific orientation lasts 3 days.
- Preference for candidates with general medical or surgical experience.
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or proof that the application process has been initiated.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.
- General medical nursing experience.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels.
Additional Information
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius.
- Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
- Call-off policy allows the equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation.
