Central Sterile Technician
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (Evening)
Job Summary
Perform sterilization procedures on medical instruments and equipment following established protocols, infection control standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. This role does not involve direct patient care.
Essential Functions
- Process specialty and general instruments.
- Reset instrument sets accurately without errors.
- Decontaminate instruments and equipment according to procedure.
- Maintain stock levels in the Central Sterile Department.
- Prepare and assemble surgical trays and equipment based on established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
- Communicate instrument repair needs to supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- CRCST.
- Sterile Processing Technician experience within the last year.
- 1 year of Sterile Processing Technician experience.
Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
- Submission of a recent (within 6 months) professional photo meeting specific guidelines (no selfies, no filters, plain background).
- Primary source verification of professional license/certification within 30 days of start date; conditional licenses not accepted.
- Documentation of immunizations or immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR).
- TB screening documentation within 3 months of start date, updated if there is a break in service longer than 6 months.
- Physician health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 1 year of start date, updated if break in service exceeds 6 months.
- Criminal background check and Massachusetts CORI check within 45 days prior to start, updated if break in service exceeds 6 months.
- National sex offender registry check and exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid) within 30 days of start and updated annually.
- Verification of highest education level achieved through background check.
- Submission of a detailed resume covering the past 7 years, including city and state for all work experience and education.
- Two professional references within the last 4 years, including at least one supervisor or higher.
- Completion of a skills checklist within 1 year of submission.
- Confirmation of assignment form required for all initial assignments and extensions.
Additional Notes
- This position requires strict adherence to infection control and sterilization standards.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
- No direct patient care responsibilities.
