Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
  • On-call requirements:
    • 1 weekend every 6-8 weeks
    • 1 weeknight per week (Monday–Thursday)
    • Holidays as operationally needed
  • Required experience: Pediatric OR, ambulatory OR, and pediatric trauma experience

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Wisconsin
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Pediatric OR experience
  • Ambulatory surgery experience
  • Trauma experience
  • Experience in an outpatient setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Certifications & Testing Requirements

  • BLS (AHA) required; renewals must be planned in advance with proof of renewal accepted during processing
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) may be required depending on unit
  • Facility-specific Pediatric Telemetry Test (WorkRamp) required for all pediatric inpatient units (NICU, PICU, Peds unit)
  • Adult Telemetry Test (WorkRamp) required for adult specialties and Pediatric ER
  • Pass/Fail testing for EKG/Medication competency required annually
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Comprehensive background check within 90 days prior to start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening required for clinical candidates (standard 9-panel, instant acceptable)
  • Physical exam must meet agency standards (within 1 year)
  • Photo for badge must meet facility specifications (passport-style, no headwear except religious/medical)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Proof of Tdap vaccination (one dose in adulthood) required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
  • Annual TB Questionnaire required
  • MMR: 2 doses given at least 28 days apart or positive titers; medical/religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
  • Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer; medical/religious exemptions accepted
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series and positive titer or facility-specific declination form required for direct patient care roles
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually (September 22 – April 13)
  • Meningococcal vaccine or declination required for candidates working in Microbiology within 5 years of start

Additional Requirements

  • Wisconsin BID Form (state-mandated) must be completed promptly for caregiver screening
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required
  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard)

Notes

  • Candidates must provide three interview availability options including time zone
  • Start dates available: May 11, May 18, or June 1, 2026
  • Facility requires strict adherence to testing and certification renewal deadlines
  • Remediation courses and retesting allowed for telemetry exams with a maximum of 3 attempts before cancellation
