Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Neuro Specialty)

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position is in the Operating Room with a neuro specialty focus.
  • Must have extensive experience with neuro cases.
  • Additional experience in Robotics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, and other specialties is required as staff may float to different services on slower days.
  • Neuro call is required.
  • Unit does not accept first-time travelers.
  • Upon assignment, you may be required to join an Emergency Team and stay at the facility during emergency events as directed by the unit manager.

Shift Details

  • Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:15 AM – 6:45 PM)
  • Total hours per week: 36

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Louisiana.
  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year.
  • One completed travel assignment.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Sex offender search required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Education verification of highest level completed (transcript/diploma acceptable if verification cannot be completed).
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant screenings not accepted).
  • Employment application and skills checklist required, with 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good physical health.
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually. For positive TB, additional documentation required.
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccination required for certain units (not specified for this role).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).

  • Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments and potential extended stays.
