Cardiac Sonographer - Echo Tech

Job Summary

Perform high-quality diagnostic echocardiographic procedures under the direction of a Cardiologist using ultrasound equipment to assess cardiac structures and function. Provide essential information for diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform transthoracic (TTE), transesophageal (TEE), and stress echocardiograms following protocols and physician orders.
  • Operate ultrasound and diagnostic imaging equipment, including use of contrast agents (e.g., Definity, agitated bubble techniques).
  • Analyze echocardiographic data and prepare preliminary findings for Cardiologist review.
  • May start and manage IV lines for contrast echocardiography if credentialed and trained.
  • Collaborate with Cardiologists and healthcare team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Review and evaluate images for clarity and diagnostic value.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in PACS or EMR systems.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, quality control checks, and report malfunctions.
  • Comply with infection control, HIPAA, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation processes.
  • May be floated to other qualified patient care departments as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Echo Technologist license in Oregon.
  • Completion of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with a specialization in Cardiac Sonography.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Echo Technologist experience within the last year.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification through ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification through CCI.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • CRASE training required if assignment extends beyond 6 months.

Physical Requirements

  • Auditory ability to detect alarms and communicate effectively.
  • Visual acuity for patient observation, documentation, and clinical tasks.
  • Tactile perception for patient assessment.
  • Motor coordination for equipment use and procedures.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl occasionally.
  • Continuous walking and standing during shifts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently; frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional lifting or transferring of individuals over 100 pounds with proper techniques or assistance.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
