Occupational Therapist - Outpatient

Job Description

• Provide outpatient hand therapy with a focus on splint fabrication for post-operative cases, acute injuries, and chronic conditions.
• Treat a wide range of orthopedic upper extremity diagnoses including post-operative conditions, acute injuries, workers’ compensation cases, and chronic disorders.
• Patient population ranges from pre-teens through geriatric individuals.
• Work shift: Day shift, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (11:00 AM - 7:30 PM).

Required Qualifications

• Valid Occupational Therapist license in California.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist.
• Occupational Therapist experience within the last year.
• Experience in an outpatient setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and motor vehicle report if applicable.
• FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
• Education verification required (not if highest education is high school).
• Sex offender search must be run within 90 days of start.
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start, must indicate clearance for work.
• TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days of start or 2-step PPD testing as per protocol, renewed annually.
• Immunizations required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination as per guidelines.
  • Hepatitis B series or declination.
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination as per guidelines.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30).
• Fit mask test required within 1 year of start and renewed annually (exceptions apply).
• Respiratory safety clearance required and renewed annually (exceptions apply).
• Color blindness exam required if applicable (in-person exam only).

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Candidate must review and sign multiple facility documents prior to start, including:

  • Job description acknowledgment
  • Standards of Business Conduct
  • Confidentiality and HIPAA agreements
  • Report of Abuse
  • Orientation booklet and post-test
  • Various Occupational Therapy competencies related to specific patient populations (e.g., CVA, Intrathecal Baclofen Program, Spinal Cord Injury, TBI, THR/TKR/Amputee, Vestibular).

• Completion of a skills checklist and employment application with full 7 years of work history (including city and state) with no gaps.

• Employment verification for up to 7 years required; gaps over 30 days must be explained.

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
• References: 2 professional references required for clinical/allied/per diem acute care candidates; 1 for per diem non-acute care (Aya requirement only, does not hold up client clearance).
