Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)
Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Medical Surgical Nursing
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:30–7:00)
- Patient Ratio:
- Days: 1:5–6
- Nights: 1:6–7
- Return to Office (RTO) Policy: Only one holiday off allowed; total time off 7 days or less
- Local Radius: 75 miles
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Harassment Prevention Training
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications & Competencies
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA strongly preferred (if applicable)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Required for ER staff only
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam – Minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Required if working in ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, or 7th Floor Med/Surg Unit; expires every 3 years
- Color Blind Testing – Required prior to start
- Competency Exam – Minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start and updated annually (specific N95 masks required)
- Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold) or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine, or documented history)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Sept 1 – Mar 31)
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable)
Documentation & Onboarding Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Emergency Contact Form (required prior to start)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year residence/work/school history
- EPLS/GSA/SAM (annual)
- HHS/OIG (annual)
- Education verification
- Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN/LPN only)
- Professional references:
- 2 references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years)
- 1 reference for per diem non-acute care roles
- Facility-specific documents to review and sign:
- Job description
- Welcome packet acknowledgment
- Omnicell form (nursing staff)
- Pneumococcal declination form (if declining vaccine)
- Photo for badge: professional headshot, plain background, no head coverings or informal poses
- Completion of online learning modules prior to first shift (specific modules provided before start)
