Registered Nurse - MS/Tele Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Odessa, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45–7:15)
Patient Ratio: Up to 6:1
Job Description
- Must be willing to float to other med/surg and telemetry units as assigned
- Urgent need for this position
- Facility will consider alternating 36/48 hour shifts or straight 48-hour shifts
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required prior to starting
- Travel experience strongly preferred
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, including experience within the last year
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required prior to starting
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (chest X-ray within 2 years if positive TB test)
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity (positive titer or vaccination):
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination accepted)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct–Apr); mask required if declination submitted
- COVID initial vaccine series or facility-specific declination required (annual boosters not required)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant acceptable)
- Fit test for approved N-95 masks within 1 year, updated annually (PAPR not accepted)
Background and Documentation
- 7-year background check required within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Government-issued photo ID required
- I9 or attestation required
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Employment application/resume required
- Two professional references within 3 years of start
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Facility-specific documents including standards of conduct, dress code, notice of employment, and safety manual acknowledgment must be completed and updated if there is a gap of more than 30 days between assignments
- HIPAA and Fair Warning quiz modules and orientation/safety training modules must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract with proper documentation (no screenshots accepted)
Additional Notes
- Must complete facility-required competency exams and pass/fail testing onsite
- Candidate must be prepared for a 6:1 patient ratio and flexible scheduling with possible 36 or 48-hour shifts
- Prior travel experience is strongly preferred but not explicitly required
This position offers a travel/contract opportunity for experienced RNs comfortable working night shifts in a Med-Surg/Telemetry setting with a focus on stroke care and critical competencies.

Pro RT environment, working with the unit staff and department staff. Charting is easy cerner. If you know your job you will be fine.
Cons
Scheduling is very difficult for travelers. Full time is 3&4, weekends are alternating Saturday and Sunday. Bureaucracy issues. Housing is difficult to find and expensive due to oil city. In the NICU you are on your own not many staff or team leads crossed trained. There is some disorganization.
