Location

• Parkersburg, West Virginia

Assignment Length

• 13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Travelers are scheduled based on unit needs
• Block scheduling may be allowed if unit needs are met

Required Qualifications

• BLS
• West Virginia or compact RN license
• Experience with orthopedic patients
• Experience with PCA pumps
• Unexpired driver’s license copy must be included with submission

Unit Details

• Med-surg ortho/neuro unit
• 33 private beds
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6
• Charge nurse is available 24/7
• Patient care tech support is available, staffing varies
• Remote telemetry may be used if needed
• RN does not need to read telemetry strips

Responsibilities and Work Setting

• May float first to other med-surg units
• If floated to telemetry, patients are assigned within the nurse’s skill set
• May be called off for low census depending on contract specifics

Common Patient Population

• Elective hip, knee, and shoulder surgeries
• Fractures from falls
• Back and neck neurosurgical patients
• General med-surg patients

Equipment / Clinical Support

• IV fluids
• PCA pumps
• CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow respiratory support managed by respiratory therapy

Orientation

• 1 day of EPIC orientation
• 1 day on the floor with a preceptor
• Independent on the 3rd day

Dress Code

• Royal blue scrubs
• Scrub jacket, if worn, must be royal blue and an actual scrub jacket
• Hoodies and sweatshirts are not allowed

Holiday Requirement

• Holidays may be required based on unit staffing needs
