Registered Nurse (RN) – High Acuity Critical Care Unit
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Critical Care (ICU)
- Number of Beds: 8
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3
- Patient Types: Respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
- Care Complexity: Sedated and ventilated patients, tracheostomy care, PEG tube feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline care
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips including Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine, Cardizem, and other ICU-level drips
- Support Staff: No nurse aides or patient care techs; nurses provide all primary care in ICU
- Physician Coverage: Hospitalist/Intensivist on-site during day shift; tele-health MD coverage after hours
- Respiratory Therapist (RT): Available in-house 24/7; RNs assist with troubleshooting ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow devices
- Telemetry Monitoring: All beds have hard-wired Phillips telemetry monitors; telemetry tech monitors centrally in ICU
- Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on each shift; house supervisor available 24/7
Scheduling & Requirements
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours
- Weekend: Every other weekend and as needed to fill shifts
- Holidays: Holiday rotation and as needed to fill shifts
- Call/Standby: Not currently required but may change
- Floating: ICU RNs may float to Medical-Surgical unit
- Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 shifts on unit with preceptor
- Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
Required Certifications & Licenses
- License: Active Illinois RN license or proof of application in process
- Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA)
Experience & Skills
- Specialty Experience: Critical care nursing with skills in ventilator management, titrating drips, and care of complex ICU patients
- Specific Skills: PEG tube care, CVC/PICC/Midline care, tracheostomy care, sedation and pain control drip management
- Prior Travel Experience: Not specified as required
Additional Notes
- Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or shift payment obligation
