Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (OR)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 - 07:00)
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, likely Friday nights
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Possible within scope but unlikely
  • Block scheduling: Managed at manager’s discretion; night shift add-ons are urgent/emergent only
  • Number of ORs: 8 total, 2 operational overnight

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • At least 2 completed travel nursing assignments
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Minimum 2 years of travel contract nursing experience
  • Pediatrics experience

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (required)
  • PALS (preferred for Pediatric OR)
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (Peds OR prefers pediatric pharmacology but regular pharmacology accepted)
  • Competency Exam (Peds OR prefers pediatric OR competency but regular OR competency accepted)
  • Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)

Background and Verification Requirements

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
    • SSN Trace
    • Statewide and national criminal checks
    • Sex offender registry
    • FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
  • Employment verification for last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • NURSYS license verification required for all RNs
  • Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC RN license
  • E-Verify attestation confirming work eligibility in the US

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (no instant tests)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Annual TB questionnaire completion required

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, solid light background, business casual attire) due by Wednesday before start
  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to orientation; must be done on a computer, not a phone
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system prior to start
  • Radiation badge required for Pediatric OR; candidates cannot start without it (may take 5-7 days to process)
  • Emergency response team assignment possible during hurricane season (June - November), especially August and September

Additional Notes

  • Guaranteed hours: May be called off up to 10 hours per 2-week period
  • All return-to-office (RTO) requests must be submitted with application and are subject to facility approval
  • Locals within 60 miles are accepted
  • Candidates with any background hits, arrests, or convictions are not eligible for temporary licensure walk-through process
  • Physical assessment form required for sterile processing techs only (not applicable here)
