• Patient ratios: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-6

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• 1-2 years acute care nursing experience

Clinical Focus

• Ortho Trauma: fractures, joint replacements
• Vascular: fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes
• Urology: TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation
• Neuro-spine: laminectomy, fusion, back pain
• OBGYN Oncology: TAH/OBS
• Acute medical patients may also be admitted

Unit Operations

• RN titration of drips is required following a prescribed nomogram
• Common drips include heparin; occasionally nitro, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
• Telemetry techs monitor the unit; RNs do not need to read strips
• Charge nurse takes an assignment on all shifts
• House supervisor is present on all shifts
• Nursing assistants are present
• RT support is present
• No vents
• No call or standby requirement
• Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units

Scheduling

• Shifts available: 0700-1930, 1100-2330, 2300-0700
• Every other weekend
• Every other holiday
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling to the best of ability depending on staffing

Orientation

• 1 day computer training
• 1-2 precepted floor orientation

Additional Notes

• Any scrub color is allowed, as long as it is clean and professional
• Clinician must clock in and out at the facility
• If the clinician has ever worked for the facility before, there must be an end date at least 6 months before submission
